A three-day-long nonfiction book fair has begun at Dhaka University on Monday.

The Faculty of Business Studies and a financial daily are jointly arranging the event for the sixth time.

Vice-chancellor of Dhaka University Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the fair and expressed the hope of organising a non-fiction book fair nationally.

“Fiction titles are mostly imaginary. It helps in creative work. But we encourage students to focus on fiction books as well as non-fiction. Information and facts should be known. Seeing this fair, he hoped that one day a non-fiction book fair will be organised at the national level.

Buyers can buy books at a maximum of 30 per cent commission. A total of 39 publishing houses and research agencies are taking part in the book fair.

Shibly Rubayat Ul Islam, chairman of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), Professor Muhammad Abdul Moin, dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, Professor Zia Rahman, dean, the Faculty of Social Sciences, and Md Nizamul Hoque Buiyan, General Secretary of Dhaka University Teachers' Association (DUTA) also spoke at the event on the importance of non-fiction books.
