Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan today expressed keen interest in working jointly with Nepal for the country’s power sector development.

“Bangladesh is interested in working jointly with Nepal for power sector development. Both the countries can also work together for the expansion of bilateral trade relations,” he said when Nepalese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari paid a courtesy call on him at his ministry’s conference room, according to a press release.

Several bilateral issues such as purchasing 40-MW hydropower from Nepal, setting up jointly a 683-MW Sunkoshi-3 hydropower plant and signing a Power Sale Agreement (PSA) for importing 500 MW of power from Nepal’s GMR Upper Karnali Hydropower Limited (GUKHL) were discussed during the meeting.

The adviser also said that a discussion was held to strengthen bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Nepal through the South Asia Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).

Congratulating the adviser for taking new responsibility, the Nepalese Ambassador said that Nepal recognized the students’ movement from the very beginning and also expressed solidarity with the people of Bangladesh.

Among others, Senior Secretary of Power Division Habibur Rahman and Secretary of Railways Ministry Abdul Baki were present during the meeting.
