State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam on Thursday pointed out that Bangladesh provides good and effective security to foreign diplomats compared to other countries.
He made the remarks in response to questions from reporters after a meeting with foreign ambassadors at the State Guest House Padma in the capital.
Shahriar added, “Today, I am speaking about this matter (diplomatic security) for the last time. Bangladesh will compete for the post of Secretary General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) in the elections to be held next July.”
In the meeting, the state minister sought the assistance and support of foreign ambassadors centring the polls. Representatives of 25 member states out of 40 members of the IMO Council participated in the meeting.
