Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Immigration of Antigua and Barbuda Chet Greene, currently in Bangladesh, said Cricket legend Sir Viv Richards will visit Dhaka when Antigua opens its consulate in the city later this year.
Making the disclosure on Sunday while briefing media after a meeting with Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud at the state guesthouse Padma, Greene said, “The consulate will be convenient for Bangladeshis who want to visit or invest in Antigua.
“At the same time, it will be helpful for Antiguans who want to visit or invest in Bangladesh. Our government has decided to be more involved in Asia, and we believe that perhaps Bangladesh is the best place from which to start the relationship.”
Jahirul Islam Rinku, managing director of PHP Ship Breaking and Recycling Industries Limited, was present at the press brief.
Greene added that Antigua wants to boost cooperation in tourism with Bangladesh. He then pointed out, “Bangladeshi citizens can study tourism at the University of West Indies, for which they will provide scholarships.
“Moreover, Antigua has proposed a visa-free arrangement between the two nations, which will allow the two countries to provide on-arrival visa facilities to each other.”
