Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain and Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly held a meeting on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday to discuss bolstering ties between the two countries.

During the meeting, both leaders explored ways to deepen bilateral cooperation and emphasised Canada's support for the ongoing reform initiatives under Bangladesh's interim government, according to a message received on Wednesday.

The discussions covered a wide range of issues, from trade and investment to climate change and multilateral collaboration.

Joly reiterated Canada's commitment to assisting Bangladesh during its transitional period and expressed her government's willingness to enhance collaboration on key global issues such as human rights, sustainable development, and climate adaptation.

The meeting comes at a transitional time for Bangladesh, which is undergoing significant reforms in governance and economic policies under the interim government.

Strengthening diplomatic ties with key partners like Canada is seen as crucial for ensuring international support for these reforms.
