Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin and UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Li Junhua held “fruitful discussions” focused on the UN’s technical and policy support in enhancing transparency and accountability.
The talk was held at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York on Monday, the foreign ministry said on Tuesday, reports BSS.
Their conversation also explored avenues for digital governance and capacity building in public institutions as part of reform initiatives led by the interim government under Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus.
In the meeting, the Foreign Secretary underscored the adverse impact of the ongoing “polycrisis” on developing countries like Bangladesh and emphasized the importance of UN support in facilitating a smooth transition from the least developed country (LDC) status.
He also stressed the need for continued cooperation from the UN System and international partners to aid in repatriating stolen assets, a crucial step toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
