Taka is continuously depreciating against the American greenback, thanks to the growing import payments, though creating a burden on importers but boosting exports and remittance earnings.

The Bangladeshi currency was depreciated yet again by 5 paisa on Tuesday, just a day after it witnessed further depreciation by Tk 2.05.

Bangladesh Bank spokesperson and Executive Director Md Serajul Islam confirmed the fresh depreciation to The Business Post.

The inter-bank exchange rate stood at Tk 92 per dollar on Tuesday, up from Tk 91.95 on Monday.

The inter-bank exchange rate has depreciated by Tk 2.10 per dollar this week, which is the highest depreciation in recent time.

This is the 11th depreciation of Taka against the US dollar in 2022.

On January 9, the central bank devalued the local currency by 20 paisa to Tk 86 per dollar for the first time this year.
