Factories of some fourteen industries will simultaneously go into commercial operation in the economic zones on Wednesday. At the same time, the construction work of some 29 more factories will also begin.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will formally inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of the infrastructure of the factories on Wednesday.
Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) Executive Chairman Shaikh Yusuf Harun disclosed this informed while addressing a view-exchange meeting organised jointly by the BEZA and the Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) held at its auditorium at Paltan Tower in the capital on Sunday.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN) Project Director Abdullah Al Mahmud Faruk made a power-point presentation on the overall operations and progress of its activities.
Shaikh Yusuf Harun informed that they are expecting to witness a production of goods and services worth $40 billion at the economic zones by 2041.
The BEZA executive chairman also informed that the commercial operations of four industries at the BSMSN including that of Asian Paints of India, Nippon of Japan, McDonald of Bangladesh and TK Group's associate organisation Samuda Construction Limited, would be inaugurated. The factory of Double Glazing would also be inaugurated at Srihotto Economic Zone.
Besides, the commercial operation of some nine industrial units at the private Economic Zones would also be inaugurated, including that of the country's biggest PVC factory. In order to go into commercial operation, some $967.73 million has already been invested in some 14 factories while the concerned industry owners informed that they have plans to invest $331.27 million more in those factories.
Harun informed that the prime minister will lay the foundation stones of some 29 factories which have already attracted an investment of $610 million, while $1,922.39 million more would be invested in those factories. These industries have already created investment opportunities for some 6,407 people, while 38,658 employment opportunities would be created in those factories.
The premier will also inaugurate important infrastructures at the BSMSN, Jamalpur Economic Zone, Srihotto Economic Zone, the administrative building of Sabrang Tourism Park, 20-kilometre-long Sheikh Hasina Avenue at the BSMSN, 230-KV grid line and power substation. Apart from this, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of 50 MLD water treatment plants at the BSMSN.
Highlighting the overall operations and progress of BEZA, the BEZA executive chairman said starting its operation in 2013 for ensuring planned industrialisation, the work for developing some 10 Economic Zones was inaugurated in 2016 by the Prime Minister.
Later in 2019, the Premier inaugurated industrial units and also laid foundation stones at the economic zones. The BEZA has maintained the pace of its development operations despite the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In continuation of this, the BEZA will hold a programme titled "Inauguration and laying foundation stones of the infrastructures of some 50 industries at the economic zones marking the Golden Jubilee of the country's independence" on Wednesday.
