Mohammed Akther Parvez, managing director of PHP Automobiles Ltd, has received the highest taxpayer award in the young category under the age of 40 in Chattogram City Corporation area.

He was selected by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) for the award in the large taxpayer category for the tax year 2022-2023.

The memento and certificate were handed over to him at a ceremony held at Bangabandhu Conference Hall of the World Centre at Agrabad in the city on Tuesday morning. Chittagong Tax Zone organised the best taxpayer award and certificate distribution ceremony.

Shahadat Hossain Sikder, commissioner of tax zone-1, chaired the ceremony where Prof Dr Shirin Akter, Vice Chancellor (VC) of University of Chattogram, was present as the chief guest.

Director General of Customs Excise and VAT Training Academy Suresh Chandra Biswas, President of FBCCI Mahbubul Alam, and Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) President Omar Hajjaj were present as the special guests.

The NBR has nominated 525 people for the best taxpayer award at city corporation and district levels in the district-wise highest and longest ‘Income Tax Paying’ under Taxpayers Policy-2008 in the fiscal year 2022-2023. 

Chattogram City Corporation, Chattogram district, Khagrachari, Rangamati, Bandarban and Cox's Bazar presented 42 people with the award yesterday.

Mohammed Akther Parvez was born in Chattogram in 1983 in a Muslim noble family. He is the youngest son of Sufi Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, chairman of the country's renowned industrial group PHP Family and recipient of the Ekushey Padak for social service.

After secondary schooling from Sunshine Grammar School, he obtained a Diploma in Advertising and Marketing from the University of Canberra, Australia. He received his Bachelor's degree in Communication from the same university in 2004. After returning to the country, he joined his family business.

Mohammed Akther Parvez, director of PHP Family, is also Managing Director of PHP Motors Limited, PHP Automobile Limited, PHP Stock and Securities Limited.

He is also director of Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI), Honorary Consul of Malaysia for Chattogram, Director of Chattogram Stock Exchange PLC and Chairman of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra cricket committee.

Besides, he owns PHP Continuous Galvanizing Mills Ltd, PHP Shipbreaking and Recycling Industries Ltd, PHP Ispat Ltd, PHP Integrated Steel Ltd, PHP Petro Refinery Ltd, PHP Fisheries Ltd, PHP Spinning Mills Ltd, PHP Steel Works Ltd, PHP Agro Products Ltd, PHP Textiles Ltd, Dina and Cold Storage Ltd, Bay-Terminal and Distribution Company Ltd, PHP Float Glass Industries Ltd, Director of University of Information Technology and Science (UITS).
