The country’s national trade association of the mobile sector, Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB), has announced the appointment of Lt Col Mohammad Zulfikar (Retd) as its new secretary general.
He has taken over from Brigadier General SM Farhad (Retd) and assumed his new role from June 1, 2023, read a press release on Sunday.
AMTOB President Erik Aas stated, "The AMTOB Board is pleased to welcome Lt Col Mohammad Zulfikar (Retd) as the new Secretary General of AMTOB. With his extensive leadership experience and expertise in Telecommunication and ICT, he is well-equipped to lead the mobile operators’ association in an engaging manner.
“The mobile industry has become more important than ever as mobile operators have a huge role to play in building the Smart Bangladesh.”
“We believe his appointment will strengthen our association's relationships with various stakeholders. I would also like to thank Brigadier General SM Farhad (Retd) for his comprehensive contribution to the Telecom industry for the last four years while he was leading AMTOB, and we wish him the best for all his future endeavors,” Erik Aas added.
Mohammad Zulfikar brings an array of technical expertise to the telecommunications industry. Previously, he led mobile number portability (MNP) service provider Infozillion Teletech as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
During his 25-year tenure in Bangladesh Army, Mohammad Zulfikar efficiently handled various responsibilities in the telecom and ICT domains. He graduated from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in computer science and engineering and worked with the National Security Intelligence, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and AMTOB previously.
The new Secretary General of AMTOB, Lt Col Mohammad Zulfikar (Retd) said, "I am humbled and honoured to get the role of secretary general at AMTOB. With utmost gratitude, I acknowledge the trust bestowed upon me by the Board of Directors. I am committed to building upon the strong foundation laid by my predecessors, fostering innovation, and driving the growth of our industry.”
The outgoing Secretary General, Brig Gen SM Farhad (Retd) said, "It has been an honour and privilege to serve as the secretary general at AMTOB. I am immensely grateful to the Board of Directors, colleagues, and all stakeholders for their continuous support and belief in our collective endeavours. I am confident that the association will continue to thrive under new leadership, and I wish them great success."
