Bangladesh calls on UK to resume aviation security activities

Chairman of Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority (CAAB) Chairman Air Vice Marshal (AVM) M Mafidur Rahman called upon the UK to resume aviation security activities that were suspended by the country’s Department for Transport (DFT) amid the pandemic.

The AVM said this during a meeting with British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke at the latter’s office in the capital on Thursday.

During the meeting, authorities from both Bangladesh and the UK stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation within the aviation sector and highlighted various vital areas.

The officials further discussed the importance of developing skilled manpower in the aviation sector, emphasising security expertise in Bangladesh.

The High Commissioner lauded the impressive post-pandemic performance of Bangladesh’s aviation sector and commended the significant improvements in airport management.

The phased implementation of the recently signed aviation communique between Bangladesh and the UK was a focal point, showcasing the commitment to fostering stronger bilateral ties.

Chairman Mafidur Rahman expressed gratitude for the UK Government’s support in the ongoing expansion and modernisation of Bangladesh’s aviation sector, particularly in the realm of airport security management.

The meeting also explored proposals for joint activities to enhance cooperation between the civil aviation authorities of both countries, with a clear objective of improving overall airport management and security.

Furthermore, the High Commissioner expressed keen interest in collaborating on the operational and maintenance work of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport’s upcoming 3rd terminal. Looking ahead, he assured Bangladesh of continued cooperation in developing the aviation sector’s infrastructure, including the procurement of new aircraft.

As the meeting concluded on a positive and friendly note, both parties expressed hope for increased communication and collaboration in the field of aviation between the United Kingdom and Bangladesh. The shared vision for mutual growth and progress in the aviation industry sets the stage for a promising partnership.
