Bangladesh Jeweller's Association (BAJUS) President and Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir has said that the Bashundhara Gold Refinery Limited will go for production from March 2023.
He made the announcement while speaking as the chief guest at the BAJUS meeting of Chattogram divisional representatives held at Radisson Blu Chattogram Bay View hotel in the port city on Monday.
“The government is ready to provide all benefits to the gold industry. In order to achieve great things in the jewellery industry, the jewellery owners of the country need to form a unity,” he said.
“Commodity exchange activities at the CSE will start with gold and the name of BAJUS will remain written in golden letters,” the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) Chairman Asif Ibrahim said.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate this historic journey,” he added.
CSE Director Major Emdadul Islam said, “Unrefined gold will be brought from abroad and will be refined in Bangladesh”.
“New industries will be developed with the by-products of the refining process. It’s an incredibly brave initiative by Bashundhara Group,” he said.
FBCCI Vice-President Amin Helali said, "I haven’t seen a united position of BAJUS members while performing at the appeal board of their election.”
“Now, there’ll be a gold processing industry in Bangladesh. It’s good to hear that gold will be exported from Bangladesh. I think this jewellery industry will be successful and overtake the garment industry within five to 10 years”.
He said, “4-5 gold jewellery factories are at the final stage of starting production in Dhaka. Everyone should come under the umbrella of BAJUS to save this industry.”
BAJUS Standing Committee on District Monitoring Chairman Dr Dilip Kumar Roy said, “BAJUS had many crises in Chattogram but we’ve overcome those. We’ve formed new committees in 64 districts and the number of its members increased to 40,000 from 6,000-7,000.”
“Our gold will be exported abroad and it’ll overtake the garment industry in the coming days,” he added.
BAJUS Chattogram President Mrinal Kanti Dhar, General Secretary Pranab Kumar Saha, Noakhali branch President Abul Hossain, Rangamati unit President Mridul Dutta and Laximpur President Harihar Pal addressed the meeting among others.
As the BAJUS president attended the representatives' meeting in Chattogram for the first time, the district and upazila leaders presented him with crests.
