The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has presented the winners of the first-ever Made in Bangladesh Photography Award with prize money to inspire them to let the world see beautiful Bangladesh through their lens.

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan handed over the prize money to the winners – Sultan Ahmed Niloy, Salahuddin Ahmed, and Md. Asker Ibne Firoz, and runners up – S M Yousuf Sharif, Sajib Karmakar and Muhammad Amdad Hossain, read a press release received Thursday.

Earlier, BGMEA honoured the six photographers with the Award during Made in Bangladesh Week held in November 2022, for capturing the captivating beauty of Bangladesh through their creative eyes and lens.

The Made in Bangladesh Photography Award was initiated by BGMEA to bring the lavish beauty of Bangladesh to the local and global audience through photography and, recognise the contribution of photographers to branding Bangladesh.

A jury board comprising renowned photographers selected the winners based on their photos in three categories – Culture and heritage, Industry and the economy, and People and landscape.

Speaking at the ceremony, Faruque Hassan said, “Bangladesh is blessed with immense natural beauty having a rich history, culture and heritage.

“Moreover, our country has a lot of encouraging stories to tell the world. What we need is to bring the beauty and potential of Bangladesh to the eyes of the global audience, and we all have to play our role in promoting Bangladesh.”

BGMEA honoured the photographers with the photography award along with the prize money to encourage them to promote Bangladesh with their cameras, he said.

BGMEA First Vice President Syed Nazrul Islam, Senior Vice President SM Mannan (Kochi), Vice President Shahidullah Azim, Vice President Md. Nasir Uddin, Vice President Miran Ali and Directors were present at the prize money-giving ceremony held at BGMEA conference room on December 15.

39th AGM of BGMEA held

The 39th annual general meeting (AGM) of the BGMEA was held at BGMEA Complex on Thursday, read another BGMEA press release.

The accounts of BGMEA for the year ended on 30th June 2021 were adopted and the budget for the year 2021-2022 was approved in the annual general meeting.

BGMEA Vice President Shahidullah Azim presented the budget in the meeting.

In his address to the AGM, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan highlighted the efforts and initiatives taken by the present Board of Directors to take the RMG industry to a new high.

“From day one, our commitment was to put our all-out efforts to make the industry more sustainable, maintain the progress that we have already made, and accelerate our journey to sustainability,” he said.

The present Board had taken initiatives to identify the potential scope of development in the RMG industry, especially product diversification, technology upgradation, and skill development to enhance the country's overall competitiveness, he remarked.

He also mentioned the Board’s initiatives of promoting the RMG industry globally, especially apparel diplomacy and the first ever “Made in Bangladesh Week” organised by BGMEA in November 2022, to promote the RMG industry internationally.
