BGMEA President Faruque Hassan sought the support of the Bangladesh High Commission in India to boost trade with the country by removing tariff barriers.
Faruque Hassan made comment when a delegation of BGMEA led by him paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Md Mustafizur Rahman in New Delhi, read a press release on Sunday.
“There are many areas where Bangladesh and India can support each other to get mutual trade benefits,” BGMEA President Faruque Hassan said.
“India is a potential source of manmade fibre-based fabrics along with chemicals and other raw materials while the country is also a promising export destination of Bangladesh RMG.”
During the meeting, the delegation of BGMEA and the High Commissioner to India discussed the current Bangladesh-India trade situation and the potential of boosting bilateral trade between the two neighbouring countries.
Meanwhile, Faruque also called on the High Commission to make consular service easier and facilitate long-term visas for Indian businessmen.
He requested for the High Commission’s cooperation in addressing problems at the land ports to expedite export-import procedures.
BGMEA Vice President Shahidullah Azim, Chair of BGMEA Standing Committee on Press, Publication and Publicity Shovon Islam and Chair of BGMEA Standing Committee on Trade Mohammed Kamal Uddin were also present on the occasion.
The delegation went to India to attend sourcing meet and roadshows organised jointly by BGMEA and the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry in India from 9-12 February.
