BIDA executive chairman invites Thai FDIs

Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Lokman Hossain Miah invited Thai investors to invest in Bangladesh through the foreign investment-friendly policy in the country.

He said this during the courtesy call meeting between BIDA and the newly elected board of directors of the Bangladesh-Thai Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BTCCI) on Thursday, read a press release.

A high-profile business delegation from Bangladesh will visit Thailand in November at the time of the visit of Bangladesh's prime minister in the BIMSTEC programme and BTCCI seeks all sorts of cooperation and supports from BIDA to make the successful program to Thailand.

BTCCI also requested to BIDA executive chairman to make available data regarding Investment opportunities in Bangladesh especially Tax exemption facilities, Incentives, Foreign specialists working at Foreign Companies in Bangladesh etc. and BIDA Executive Chairman assured the business leaders to extend their support to BTCCI’s proposals.

Lokman Hossain Miah expresses his already taken effective steps for promoting and attracting FDIs in the investment-friendly government policy.

He emphasised the joint venture between Bangladesh and Thailand in some sectors like Agro-processing, Tourism & Hospitality Management, Jute and Jute goods, Fisheries, Pharmaceuticals etc. and can also get Technical support from them pointing out that the environmental and cultural ties of both countries are similar.

He also said that some significant business sectors are patronised by the Bangladesh Government and ensure the factory’s compliance with international stakeholders' requirements.

BTCCI President Shams Mahmud introduced the newly elected Board of Directors of BTCCI to the BIDA Executive Chairman and its officials. He apprised BIDA officials regarding the plan of BTCCI to take necessary steps for enhancing the bilateral relationship between Bangladesh and Thailand.

In this regard, both the BTCCI and the BIDA would work jointly their best to boost Foreign Investment in Bangladesh. BTCCI President also emphasised the increasing export from Bangladesh to Thailand such as Pharmaceuticals, Jute and Jute goods, Leather, RMG and Ceramics etc and relocating labour-intensive industries in Bangladesh.

Senior Vice President Md Munir Hossain said, “We are providing a low-cost production base and competitive labour market for foreign entrepreneurs and the government took huge changes in the foreign investment policy. So, FDIs especially Thailand could also play an important role by investing in Bangladesh’s infrastructure like Roads and Highways, Power and Energy and such labour-intensive sectors.”

BIDA Executive Chairman thanked the board of Directors to come forward for the discussion of bilateral issues between Bangladesh and Thailand and extended his appreciation to BTCCI for working to enhance the bilateral business relationship between Bangladesh and Thailand.

Executive members of BIDA including Mohsina Yasmin, Md Salem Sulaiman, Vice President Khemathat Archawathamrong, Honorary Director Mohammad Junaed Ibne Ali, Director Finance Shahzada A Hamid, Md Ahsanuzzaman, Brahmanda Pratap Barua, Directors, Md Nazmul Hossein ACS, Secretary of BTCCI attended the courtesy call on among others.
