A workshop, on improving the efficiency of irrigation pumps used in agriculture by making impellers using 3D printing technology, was held at Bangladesh Industrial Technical Assistance Center’s (BITAC ), Bogura office on Saturday.

The workshop was attended by BITAC Director General Parimal Singha as its chief guest while specials guests were Foundry Owners Association of Bangladesh of Bogura’s President Md Abdul Malek Akand, Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers Association Bangladesh General Secretary Md Kamal Miah, according to a press release.

BITAC Director (admin and finance) Engr Md Mohsin presided over the workshop while Assistant Engr (CNC) Arif Ahmed presented the keynote article.

The workshop was attended by businessmen and entrepreneurs associated with foundry and agricultural machinery manufacturing industries based in Bogura.

Speakers, at the workshop, stated, “Nearly 70 per cent of the country's agricultural pumps are manufactured in Bogura. Therefore, if the technique of making impellers can be delivered to the foundry industry through 3D printing technology, the farmers will be benefited and the foundry industry will improve. Through this, the overall economic development of the country will be accelerated.”

Parimal said that one of the multifaceted tasks of BITAC is to innovate new technologies and deliver them to related entrepreneurs. BITAC is doing this relentlessly. The industries ministry has already awarded this impeller-making technique as the best innovative initiative. If it can be successfully spread, the country's people will benefit directly, and the economic growth will be boosted.”

Arif said, “Making the impeller using 3D technology increases the pump's efficiency. As a result, fuel consumption will be significantly lower. Hence, BITAC is working to spread this technology.”

Meanwhile, Akand thanked the organisers and said, “We are interested in this new technology. With the BITAC’s cooperation, we want to use it in foundries and agri machinery manufacturing companies.”
