Chartered Life Insurance Company Ltd (CLICL) and BRAC – the world’s largest non-government organisation – have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to reduce health risks of a marginalised segment of the population and pregnant women.

The organisations have teamed up to resolve health risks faced by a significant portion of the country’s expectant mothers. CLICL and BRAC signed the MoU at the BRAC Centre in Mohakhali on Sunday.

According to World Health Organisation (WHO) data, many expectant mothers face serious health risks during childbirth, and among them, some face perinatal and postpartum deaths.

Negligence in undergoing four mandatory health checkups during pregnancy and not being able to get to a hospital in time are behind such incidents.

BRAC Microfinance Senior Director Arinjoy Dhar and CLICL CEO SM Ziaul Hoque signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations. Under the agreement, Chartered Life will provide life, health and maternity insurance to all BRAC customers.

BRAC Microfinance Programme Head Belayet Hossan, Chartered Life DMD Mohammed Amdad Ullah, and its CFO Md Monzur Ahmed were present at the MoU signing ceremony.
