The “Centre for China Studies” was inaugurated at Dhaka University (DU) on Sunday.

DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof ASM Maksud Kamal presided over the ceremony at DU’s Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, where Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Yao Wen was present as a special guest.

Addressing the event, Prof Kamal said, "An excellent friendly relationship has been prevailing between Bangladesh and China for a long time. These friendly ties and bilateral relationship would be further strengthened through undertaking various joint collaborative academic and research activities at this centre."

Yao Wen thanked all those involved for establishing the Centre for China Studies. He said the centre will play a pivotal role in enhancing collaborative cooperation and development of academic, cultural and other bilateral sectors between the two countries.

DU Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Muhammad Samad, Pro-VC (Academic) Prof Sitesh Chandra Bachar, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology VC Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed, Noakhali Science and Technology University VC Prof Md Didar-ul-Alam, Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) President Prof Dr Chen Dongxiao, East China Normal University Vice President Prof Dr Gu Hongliang and Yunnan University Vice President Prof Dr Hu Jinming also spoke at the event.

Meanwhile, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between DU and SIIS was signed at the function. Prof Kamal and Prof Chen Dongxiao signed the MoU on behalf of their institutes. Moreover, a Letter of Intent was also signed on this occasion.
