The Coca-Cola Foundation has funded Cordaid Bangladesh for a new waste management project in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Narayanganj.

The project is titled "Recycling for the Environment by Strengthening Income & Livelihood of Entrepreneurs".

The project aims to foster the economic and social well-being of waste workers.

Abdur Rouf Nannu, ward councillor of Ward 05 of DNCC, said, “Waste problem has been a big issue for our city. Apart from environmental issues, waste pollution has created many other health issues for our citizens. However, to tackle this problem, the involvement of both public and private sector is necessary.”

“As long as there’s demand for packaged goods, waste problems will always be there. It’s our duty to manage the waste and find alternative ways to mitigate the problem. Recycling has proven to be the most effective waste management system. With the support of the Coca-Cola Foundation, we believe, we’ll be able to change the conventional view toward waste workers and establish recycling as one of the booming industries in the country.” said Cordaid representative.

Saadia Madsbjerg, president of the Coca-Cola Foundation said, “The project will bring valuable resources which will help to strengthen the sector.”

Earlier, the Coca-Cola Foundation (TCCF) announced financial assistance for a new initiative with Social Responsibility Asia (SR Asia) Bangladesh to boost the waste management process in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), marking the upcoming World Environment Day.

The target of the project is to recycle 50 tonnes of plastic waste every month.
