Karotoa Green Spinning Mills Limited commenced operations in January at Gazipur, boasting an environmentally sustainable yarn factory. Additionally, it is equipped with comprehensive facilities for its workforce.

The endeavour is the brainchild of its Chief Executive Officer Abdul Ahad Akil who is also involved with three other spinning mills, said a press release.

The sprawling green factory covers an area of 5.50 lakh square feet and houses 45,000 spindles. Currently, it employs a workforce of 2,400 individuals.

Abdul Ahad Akil expressed, "Drawing from our experience in addressing the environmental impact of factories, we have taken the responsibility to construct a green factory and have succeeded. Our aim is for it to be recognized as a role model in environmental sustainability."

He mentioned that one lakh trees have been planted on the factory premises and a pond covering an area of 10 bighas has been excavated. The water sourced from this pond will be utilised within the factory, and a dedicated system has been established to purify this water for reuse, ensuring its return to the pond.

Additionally, he underscored the use of lead-free corrugated sheets in constructing the factory's shed, stating, "We are conscious of the adverse effects lead can have on the environment and public health.

Abdul Ahad Akil expressed, "The lifeblood of a factory is its workers. I believe that it is very difficult to run a factory without a soul connection between the workers and the entrepreneur. As a result, we have placed maximum emphasis on ensuring that our green factory is worker-friendly," he said.

A dormitory has been constructed on the factory premises to accommodate its workers. Additionally, a market has been established where the company offers subsidies, allowing workers to purchase products at discounted prices.

Moreover, the company is setting up a daycare centre specifically catering to women workers. Furthermore, there will be a round-the-clock doctor available in the factory to ensure continuous medical care for the workers. A portion of the factory is designated for use as a playground and school, where workers' children can utilise the facilities.

Following Abdul Ahad’s commitment to social work and industrial responsibility, he has received several prestigious recognitions including the Mother Teresa International Award, and BBF Youth Summit Award.
