Experts have urged the government to consider prioritising the housing sector at a roundtable on Wednesday in Dhaka.
The roundtable was jointly organised by Policy Research Institute (PRI) and International Finance Corporation (IFC).
At the roundtable, they also called for reforming policy and formulating a vision for a green and resilient housing sector.
The speakers, while speaking at the event, also underscored the need for setting up a shelter fund to support private sector developers, and improving public land management to improve the access to affordable housing.
Speaking at the event, Planning Minister MA Mannan said, “The government has taken some initiative named after the "Asray Project" for the sake of poor people.”
"There are lots of lands in the country. We have to utilise it for affordable housing. We all have to work together," the minister added.
Meanwhile, PRI Executive Director Dr Ahsan H Mansur said that there are huge challenges in the country. These problems have to be resolved in future.
"The housing sector has to give priority for the sake of development. Millions of people can be employed here if the government works cordially," he stated.
