FAO delegation attends OCOP project workshop

A delegation from the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations attended a workshop and jackfruit orchard visit under Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) in Gazipur.

On Thursday, BARI organised a Regional Launch Event and Workshop for One Country One Priority Product (OCOP) projects in Asia and the Pacific at the Kazi Badruddoza Auditorium of the institute.

Senior scientists from different divisions and centres of BARI, FAO officials and university teachers participated in the workshop. BARI Director General Dr Debasish Sarker welcomed the FAO delegation at the time of their arrival in the institute with other directors.

Joint Secretary (Research Branch) of the Ministry of Agriculture Dr Sabina Yesmin inaugurated the workshop as chief guest while the Director General of BARI Dr Debasish Sarker presided over the workshop.

FAO’s Plant Production and Protection Division (NSP) Rome, Italy Director Dr Jingyuan Xia was present as a special guest. FAO Representative in Bangladesh Mr Robert D Simpson was also present at the event. 

FAO delegation visited BARI’s jackfruit orchard before the workshop, where the Chief Scientific Officer of the Fruit Division of Horticultural Research Center Dr Md Jillur Rahman highlighted the current progress and future plans of their research. The delegation then observed various technologies related to jackfruit processing in the Postharvest Technology Division.

Director (Support & Services) Dr Ferdouse Islam, Director (Research) Dr Md Abdullah Yousuf Akhand, Director (Planning & Evaluation) Dr Dilwar Ahmed Chowdhury, Director (Oilseed Research) Dr Md Tariqul Islam, Director (Tuber Crops Research Center) Dr Sohela Akhter, Director (Horticulture Research Centre ) Dr Gobinda Chandra Biswas and Chief Scientific Officer of Pomology Division, HRC, Dr Babul Chandra Sarker were present during the workshop.
