French retailer Carrefour eyes expanding business in Bangladesh

Carrefour, a French multinational retail and wholesaling corporation headquartered in Massy, France, has expressed enthusiasm for strengthening their partnership with Bangladesh and discussed possible collaboration with Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

Carrefour Director (Textile Global Sourcing) Jean Marie Fouque discussed such issues when he paid a courtesy visit to BGMEA President Faruque Hassan at BGMEA Complex on Monday.

During the meeting, they discussions about different RMG trade-related issues, including challenges and opportunities of Bangladesh’s RMG industry.

They talked about how Carrefour could strengthen its partnership with Bangladeshi suppliers to expand business base in Bangladesh. Prospects of increasing apparel sourcing from Bangladesh also got importance during their talks.

They also discussed possible collaboration between Carrefour and BGMEA to support the Centre of Innovation Efficiency and OSH. The Centre has been established by BGMEA to support Bangladesh’s RMG industry with knowledge, skills and technical know-how to face the future challenges and enhance its competitiveness.

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan invited Jean Marie Fouque to the “Made in Bangladesh Week” which will be organised by BGMEA on November 12-18 this year to showcase prospects and strengths of the RMG industry.

Global Sourcing Carrefour Country Head (Bangladesh and Pakistan) Rezwan Murshed, Global Sourcing Carrefour Dhaka office CSR Manager Veronique Grevet, and Production and Quality Manager Nasir Uddin Tipu were also present on the occasion.
