Grameenphone has launched the country’s first fixed wireless broadband internet service 'gpfi unlimited' to enhance the internet experience.

Following the Unified Licensing Guidelines, this innovative solution leverages fixed wireless access (FWA) technology to deliver reliable and high-speed internet connectivity to homes and businesses across the nation.

One can avail of this service through visiting Grameenphone’s customer care, MyGP app or website. A dedicated customer relationship manager will then visit the customer's home or office to assess network availability. Afterwards, a router will be installed at the customer's home.

There are three available plans: Tk 1,000 per month for 25 Mbps, Tk 1,300 per month for 30 Mbps and Tk 1,900 per month for 40 Mbps.

GP also unveiled two Huawei-manufactured fixed wireless access (FWA) technology routers at a launching event at Le Méridien hotel in Dhaka on Monday.

These routers, one connecting up to 10 devices via Wi-Fi are priced at Tk 4,000 while the other one, able to connect up to 30 devices, will cost Tk7,500.

State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak, attending as the chief guest, said, “There were 50 lakh internet users 15 years ago. But today there are 13 crore internet users. Earlier 1 Mbps internet had to be bought for Tk 85,000. Now it costs Tk 60.”

“Meanwhile, around 12 crore people are using the internet through four operators mobile phones. About 1 crore 20 lakh people including various organisations are using broadband. About 3000 Internet Service Providers are providing internet connection,” he mentioned.

He said, “'gpfi unlimited' has the potential to transform the digital landscape of Bangladesh. By providing wireless, fast, and reliable internet, it will significantly enhance connectivity and accessibility across the country.”

“It will empower individuals and businesses by offering affordable broadband internet. This empowerment is crucial for enabling remote work, financial inclusion, online education, telehealth services, and digital entrepreneurship, thus driving socio-economic development,” he added.

GP’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Yasir Azman said, "As we move towards a future dominated by artificial intelligence (AI), smart devices, and connectivity, the time is now to begin our journey towards a safer, healthier, and happier life through the latest technology.”

“Therefore, the company is dedicated to creating a digitally inclusive society where everyone can benefit from the advantages of the internet. The launch of 'gpfi unlimited' aligns with this vision, showcasing Grameenphone's commitment to investing in technology and infrastructure that supports the vision of ‘Smart Bangladesh’,” he added.

"Through 'gpfi unlimited,' Grameenphone not only offers the future of Wi-Fi but also acts as a catalyst for digital empowerment, contributing to the socio-economic development of the nation," he further said.
