Mobile telecom operator Grameenphone has introduced work from home for its employees every Thursday with a view to curbing energy consumption and carbon footprint.

With the fresh initiative, the company headquarters will remain non-operational on the day.

Grameenphone, the digital connectivity partner and a responsible corporate citizen of Bangladesh, announced a series of initiatives and adopted contingency ways of work in solidarity with the government’s prudent national measures to navigate the looming challenging times and contribute to curbing consequences amidst the global energy crisis, a press release said on Saturday.

The digital connectivity partner also runs its operations with an AI-based solution to ensure electricity efficiency throughout its operations all over the country, it said.

Grameenphone Chief Human Resources Officer Syed Tanvir Husain said, “The world is going through one of the grave energy crises in recent times. This unprecedented long period of high energy prices and the supply shortage is exerting tremendous pressure on all economies, resulting in consequences in our lives.

“During these trying times, we have proactively adopted contingency ways of work to curb electricity consumption in solidarity with the Bangladesh government’s prudent efforts to navigate the challenges. Our latest operating model, integration of AI and RPA through modernization, has enabled our employees to work from home, ensuring smooth operations for our customers.

“We also encourage everyone to adopt the habit of cycling, walking, or carpooling to stand by the nation on an individual level which will translate into long-term impact in reducing carbon footprint,” he added.
