Interior Designers Association of Bangladesh (IDAB), an organisation established in 2019 to unite and support the nation’s interior designers, will organise "IDAB Excellence in Interior Design Award 2024" in November for the first time.

The comprehensive planning for this prestigious event was discussed at a conference held at Bishwo Shahitto Kendro on Saturday, according to a press release.

The "IDAB Excellence in Interior Design Award 2024" is poised to be a landmark event, celebrating the creativity and innovation of Bangladesh’s interior design community and fostering a culture of excellence within the industry, added the release.

The conference began with opening remarks from IDAB General Secretary Sayed Kamrul Ahsan, who welcomed all interior designers across Bangladesh to participate, irrespective of individual or organisational affiliation.

The event aims to showcase and celebrate the exceptional talent within the country's interior design community.

The IDAB Excellence in Interior Design Award is set to become an annual affair, with the deadline for participation on August 31. Interested designers must submit their entries through the form available on the IDAB website. Submissions should be free of any watermarks or logos. The judging criteria will focus on the impact of designs, adherence to local traditions, environmental consciousness, and the quality of colour usage.

The total prize value for the competition is Tk 15,50,000. Participation is open to any Bangladeshi interior designer, architect, or licensed entity without any entry fees.

IDAB Director Shafiul Islam highlighted the event's mission to elevate the recognition of Bangladeshi interior designers on an international platform. He noted, "Our designers are engaging in creative endeavours comparable to their international counterparts but often lack the recognition they deserve. This competition will bring the best interior designers of our country to the forefront, enhance their skills, and help establish a respectable position for them in society."

At the conclusion of the conference, Shafiul Islam engaged with journalists in a Q&A session, revealing that the winning projects will have the opportunity to compete in the Asia-Pacific Space Designer Association for the title of Asia's Best. This international exposure is expected to further elevate the profile of Bangladeshi interior designers.
