Kubernetes Community Day held in Dhaka for 1st time

The Kubernetes Community Day (KCD) programme was held for the first time in the country on May 11. The program was arranged by an 11-member organizing committee from the technology leader of Dhaka, Bangladesh, which was supported by the Cloud-Native Computing Foundation.

This day-long program gained immense popularity on social media platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn under the hashtags “#KCDHAKA” and “#KCDDHAKA2024”.

The organisers were various developer, operations expert and IT professionals. Participants at the programme shared their knowledge about the cloud-native technology stack. The event was moderated by one of the organising committee members, Amir Hossain, head of SecDevOps and Cloud Engineering at BJIT Ltd, according to a press release.

More than 280 participants attended the programme, which was sponsored by several esteemed companies. The platinum sponsors included Anwar Enterprise Systems Ltd, ASTHA IT, Klover Cloud Inc, and F5 Inc. Gold sponsors featured NHQ in association with Sisdig, Upstra Communications Ltd (in association with Google Cloud Partner). Additionally, AppsCode Inc supported as a silver sponsor, while Brilliant Cloud contributed as a bronze sponsor.

Speakers at the programme presented their keynote papers on the challenges of building large-scale software in the modern cloud-native world and challenges to building applications on the Kubernetes platform.

Four workshops were conducted during the programme, and participants learned about cloud-native platforms using Kubernetes. The workshops were titled -- Cloud Native Essentials for Beginners, Kubernetes Multi-Cluster Monitoring, Deploying an application in Kubernetes using Argo CD and GitOps, and Tracing the Future: Kubernetes and Microservices in Action.

One of the speakers, Md Arif Hossen, talked about the necessity of incorporating the cloud platform engineering concept for mid to large-size organisations to build an "Internal Developer Platform (IDP)" as an internal cloud product for the development team to build business value for the organisation on top of that platform.

Monzur Ahmed Chowdhury, another speaker, talked about the impact of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) concepts in today’s complex operations and management.

Jasim Alam, also a speaker, discussed the best practices of DevSecOps in the Kubernetes ecosystem.

At the end of the programme, there was a panel discussion conducted by Mizanur Rahman, CTO of Brain Station 23, on "Cloud-native technology and Kubernetes adoption in Bangladesh". They explored Kubernetes' influence on DevOps and infrastructure management, addressing challenges like resource shortages, security, and tech transition costs.

The speakers concluded that education is the key in driving tech adoption, and more industry-level collaboration is necessary.

Finally, the programme concluded with a quiz competition and a raffle draw ceremony.
