Since, Md Ali Akhtar Hossain took charge as the chief engineer of LGED, every project is progressing well. LGED engineers confirmed almost 100 per cent implementation rate of Annual Development Programme (ADP) this year. Besides, mobility has come in the field of road transportation.

The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) serves as a main source of rural economic development. LGED engineers have been relentlessly engaged in development activities, constructing various infrastructure projects such as bridges, culverts, and roads across the country, the release added.

After Chief Engineer Md Ali Akhtar Hossain joined the work, dynamics of this organisation have increased. The LGED now receives an average annual revenue budget of Tk 3,000 crore, also added the release.

Md Ali Akhtar Hossain said, “Under the revenue budget, LGED receives an average of Tk 3,000 crore every year and this money is used to build roads, socio-economic and various infrastructures in rural and urban areas. Besides, LGED builts small scale water resource infrastructure to increase food production in the country. It has been constructing infrastructure worth around Tk 5,000 crore under various projects of other ministries and departments.”

He reiterated that LGED is a part of the country’s incredible success in the socio-economic development. In this journey of prosperity, LGED's involvement in rural and urban infrastructure development is huge.

“LGED as an engineering institute of the government is involved in the implementation of Vision 2041 announced by the prime minister. Building infrastructure while maintaining quality is a prerequisite for sustainable development. Engineers and construction personnel of LGED are trained every year to maintain the quality of work,” Hossain said.

“Currently construction workers are also brought under training. LGED has its own quality control laboratories in all the districts of the country to carry out necessary tests to maintain the quality of work. The quality of the construction materials stocked at the site is tested at LGED's laboratory before being used for construction work. And those construction materials which are not tested in the laboratory but are tested from various technical universities,” he added.

Recently, a book containing 51-point guidelines has been published by the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Md Tazul Islam for the LGED engineers. The publication is timely, contemporary and realistic. The directives of the book are followed by all LGED engineers.
