Pubali Bank celebrates 64th founding anniversary

Pubali Bank Limited celebrated its 64th founding anniversary on May 19.

On the occasion, a casual ceremony was organised at the bank’s head office in Dhaka where its Managing Director and CEO Mohammad Ali cut a cake as the chief guest, read a press release.

Deputy managing directors – Mohammad Esha, Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, Ahmed Enayet Manzur, Md Shahnewaz Khan and Mohammad Anisuzzaman along with senior executives were also present at the event.

The history of this bank has a close relationship with the country's history, tradition, socio-economic development, freedom and sovereignty spirit.

The official journey of “The Eastern Mercantile Bank Limited” started on May 19, 1959, in Terribazar, Chittagong.

After the Great War of Liberation, in 1972, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman nationalised “The Eastern Mercantile Bank Limited” and renamed it “Pubali Bank” through an order issued by the president, read the release.

In June 1983, as per A government decision, Pubali Bank was nationalised and converted into a public limited company.

Pubali Bank is the largest private commercial bank in Bangladesh and is currently operating with 500 branches, 152 sub-branches, 17 Islamic Banking Windows and around 9,000 skilled workforce.
