The school for special needs children “Blue Sky,” run by Bangladesh Air Force (BAF), was inaugurated by at the BAF Base Bashar in Dhaka on Monday.

Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury chaired the inauguration ceremony while BAF Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sheikh Abdul Hannan was also present on the occasion, according to a press release.

At the event, Bangladesh Air Force Women's Welfare Association (BAFWWA) President Tahmida Hannan, former chairman of the Dhaka Mercantile Co-Operative Bank Limited Group Captain (Retd) Abu Zafar Chowdhury, BAF chiefs, senior military officials, and other dignitaries were present among others.

In collaboration with the government's initiatives for autistic and special needs children, the BAF established the "Blue Sky" School through concerted efforts.

The primary objective of this school is to integrate specially-abled children into mainstream society by nurturing their potential through inclusive education and practical programmes. Blue Sky School ensures a beautiful and welcoming environment, offering modern facilities and various services to its students.

BAFWWA is the pioneer to take the initiative to establish this school. Since its inception in 1977, inspired by the motto of “Service, Culture and Friendship”, BAFWWA has been accepting and implementing various services and welfare activities for the members of the BAF and their families including education, cultural, economic, medical and other services.

BAFWWA's social and service activities have now expanded beyond the confines of the BAF to the national level and its various activities in promoting education have already won widespread appreciation.

BAFWWA Chairperson Tahmida Hannan has played a leading role in the establishment of the Blue Sky School, turning its dream into reality. Tahmida Hannan and Abu Zafar Chowdhury, also a freedom fighter, came forward with sincere cooperation and financial support to realise the dream of establishing the school. It is because of his magnanimity that it is possible to establish schools like Blue Sky.

Blue Sky is expected to usher in a new chapter in human resource development by introducing international standard training and therapy for children with special needs.
