Shapla, a Bangladeshi startup, has recently introduced a new platform named 'Shapla Tax', a platform for free tax calculation and tax filing.
“The platform will allow citizens to calculate and file their taxes online. The B2C platform intends to automate the tedious process of tax calculation and filing with ease,” read a press release on Tuesday.
According to the National Board of Revenue (NBR), of the country's total population, only 6.7 million are taxpayers. Among them, less than 1 per cent file their taxes.
In a recent announcement, the government has made it mandatory for online businesses with revenue of more than BDT 2,00,000 to submit taxes and enforced rules on submitting zero tax returns for freelancers.
Tax calculations for taxpayers have always been manual but with this new feature, Shapla is making the entire process easy for taxpayers.
"Currently Bangladeshi taxpayers are paying around Tk 3,500 to 5,000 to file their taxes with tax accountants or lawyers following a manual process which requires a lot of time and effort. Shapla is offering to complete this process by BDT 2,000 per file after having it reviewed by tax lawyers, and thus the entire process becomes easier for the taxpayers,” said Co-founder and CEO of Shapla Tasnim Mortoza.
