Special football tournament held for Rohingya childrens

The special football tournament "Winning Spirit", aimed at promoting the mental development and skills of children residing in refugee camps, was organised at the KLABU-PSG Club Centre of Camp-19 in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar on Wednesday.

The tournament was attended by over a hundred boys and girls from the refugee area. The organisers provided jerseys, sports equipment, and tournament souvenirs to the Rohingya children, according to a press release.

The event was organised by leading companies in the Material Science and Digital Identification Solutions sector, namely Avery Dennison, KLABU Foundation, and the social purpose organisation Friendship. Participants included children from the refugee area, along with officials from these organisations.

Apparel Solutions, South Asia Vice President Kenji Liu, Apparel Solutions Bangladesh Vice President Mohammad Sajjad Hossain, Friendship’s Deputy Director Ahmed Toufiqur Rahman, Deputy General Manager Abu Mohammad Shahab, Apparel Solutions Managing Director Kalim Banda, and staff from the refugee camp were also present.

Kenji Liu mentioned that in 2019, Avery Dennison joined hands with the KLABU to establish a TechStyle Sports Clubhouse in Kenya. Then in 2022, a sports club house was established in Cox's Bazar refugee area. The Club Centre in Ukhiya refugee area was established jointly by French football club, Paris Saint-Germain Club and the SPO, Friendship.

Speakers at the event emphasised the importance of assisting displaced persons from Myanmar in rebuilding their lives. In this regard, sports can play a significant role. Events like the "Winning Spirit" tournament can be a unique opportunity to shape the future of children and adolescents. Guests hoped that such initiatives would contribute effectively to achieving goals through teamwork.
