Standard Chartered Bangladesh and UCEP Bangladesh have launched an employment programme for the individuals whose livelihoods have been impacted by Covid-19 and recent flooding in areas of northern Bangladesh.
Under this partnership, 500 beneficiaries in the Sylhet district will receive vocational training, said a press release on Wednesday.
The programme has been launched to help the individuals who lost their jobs and source of income in recent months.
Of the 500 selected beneficiaries, 278 are individuals looking for opportunities to recover from the pandemic, while the other 222 are individuals who have been displaced by the recent flood.
Female beneficiaries and rural locals are prioritised during the selection process.
Standard Chartered Bangladesh’s Chief Executive Officer Naser Ezaz Bijoy said, “When the floodwaters flooded northern Bangladesh, they had a devastating impact on communities. The aim of this programme is to help these communities to adapt to their new reality.”
UCEP Bangladesh Executive Director Dr Abdul Karim said, “We are thankful to Standard Chartered Bangladesh for their continuing support to expand the programme.”
