Vice President of e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (ECAB) Ambareen Reza said a “Startup Academy” will be made operational at the secretariat ECAB in Dhaka in the coming days.

She said, “Such an academy will be meant for necessary assistance to entrepreneurs, including communications with investors who provide funding and help scale up startups.”

Initial works for establishing the “Startup Academy” have been completed after Ambareen Reza was elected as the director of ECAB securing the highest votes two years ago.

“A vat and tax support desk will be set up at the secretariat. Initiative has also been taken to set up a business finance desk,” said Ambareen Reza, the co-founder of online food delivery platform foodpanda in Bangladesh.

“Our objective is to support the ECAB members seeking solutions to critical issues of tax and financing,” she added.

Ambareen pointed out that she has worked for upholding the interests of the e-commerce entrepreneurs in the draft Digital Commerce Act and also promoted their agenda in various policy fora.

Based on her experience of working at the ECAB, she said, “The country’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have a huge potential to benefit from cross-border e-commerce.

“There are more scopes to work for the growth of the e-commerce sector and to help the entrepreneurs survive and thrive in this promising sector,” she observed as ECAB is going to hold the election to its new Executive Council for 2024-2026 on July 27.

Ambareen Reza started working with foodpanda in 2013 and has in the meantime supported digital transformation of 50,000 SMEs with employment opportunities for thousands of youths. As recognition of this contribution, her company won Digital Bangladesh Award-2022.
