Tanvir Ahmed has been appointed as the managing director of Envoy Textile Ltd, a company listed in the stock market. Majority of the shareholders however have opposed the appointment of Barrister Shehrin Salam Oishee as deputy managing director.
Envoy Textiles board of directors took the decision based on the voting of shareholders during an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM), held at Gulshan Shooting Club Saturday morning.
The EGM was held to appoint the managing director and deputy managing director of the company, in accordance with the instructions of the Appellate Division. During the voting process, 100,151,942 of the shares voted for Tanvir, which is about 73 per cent of total votes.
Besides, 100,139,912 votes were cast against the appointment of Envoy Textiles Barrister Shehrin Salam Oishee as deputy managing director, which is about 73 per cent of the total votes.
The Annual General Meeting was scheduled to be held on January 29, 2024. Barrister Shehrin Salam Oishee, director of Envoy Textiles Ltd appealed to the High Court regarding the postponement of the EGM.
Later, a six-member bench headed by Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan dismissed the appeal after a hearing.
In June 2022, the board committee removed Abdus Salam Murshedy as the managing director of the company. Following that, the High Court appointed Tanvir Ahmed as the new managing director.
Murshedy later appealed to the Appellate Division challenging this appointment. According to the Appellate Division order, Salam Murshedy cannot serve as managing director of Envoy Textiles Limited due to violations of Company Act and Customs Act.
He then appealed against the verdict. A five-member bench headed by Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan dismissed the appeal and upheld the High Court verdict.
