Walton sets $10b export target by 2030

You may be surprised to hear that how watching video and taking photos can be done through a fridge as it is used to keep food cold. It’s unbelievable but true. Bangladesh’s leading electronics manufacturer Walton has brought the Smart Fridge to attract international buyers.

The appearance of this technology has drawn a significant crowd at the 'International Advanced Components and Technology (ATS) Expo-2023 organised by Walton, which commenced yesterday (Thursday) at the International Convention City Bashundhara in Dhaka

A substantial number of individuals were observed converging around the Smart Fridge pavilion at the expo.

The company’s Managing Director and CEO Golam Murshed said that Walton is exporting products in over 40 countries of the world. The expo will help to achieve the target of a $10 billion export target by 2030.

“This is the first time in the history of Bangladesh that a single Bangladeshi brand has organized such a technology and solutions expo. The expo will highlight the potential industries of Bangladesh and the domestic industries capabilities as well”, the CEO said.

If the government's policy support and people’s trust are maintained, Walton will take Bangladesh to a unique height in the world, he added.

“We have brought four new models fridges with new features to attract our local and international buyers particularly EU and the USA. The fridges will be available in markets at end of September,” Chief Business Officer (Refrigerator) of Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC Tofail Ahmed told The Business Post.

He added that their smart fridge was basically manufactured for USA customers. Latest technology has been used in the fridge. It’s equipped with Internet of Things (IoT) features, which way you can control the functions at any time, from anywhere with your smartphone. It has an interior-facing smart fridge camera. You can watch video on YouTube and take you photo excellently alongside all necessary features.

Besides, many visitors were also seen at a pavilion where several fans were on but not make noise. “Our two new fans will be available in market in next months which don’t make sound like local markets’ fans,” Deputy CBO (fans) Rubel Ahmmed said. The fans will be very electricity affordable which is import for the country’s people.   

50, 000 products under a roof

Along with such new products, Walton is showcasing more than 50,000 industrial materials, components, testing labs and other services in the expo. The ATS expo will continue till August 12.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi inaugurated the fair as the chief guest. The expo will showcase products in four categories--Testing Solutions, Industrial Materials, Components, Services and Products.

Walton Hi-Tech Industries Director SM Mahbubul Alam said Walton's highly trained skilled engineers are manufacturing more than 50,000 industrial materials and components through state-of-the-art machinery. These components can be used by other industries of the country.

“If the domestic companies use each other's manufactured components, the cost of production will be reduced as well as the growth and capacity of the domestic industry will increase greatly. If we all work together, the economic prosperity of the country will be accelerated,” he added.

Government’s policy support sought

Speaking at the expo, newly elected FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam said electronics products are now available in every village of the country. Business-friendly environment and 100 per cent electrification were ensured across the country.

“Walton is the biggest proof of that. Walton is exporting their products to many countries of the world. It is a matter of pride for Bangladesh,” he added.

DCCI President Sameer Sattar said the growth of Walton both in the local and the international market is a matter of pride and contributing to our ‘Made in Bangladesh’ identity across the globe.

Philippine Ambassador to Dhaka Leo Tito L. Ausan Jr said Walton is expanding its business globally. He called for the expansion of Walton's business in the Philippine market.

Speaking on the occasion, Tipu Munshi said if Walton had not started producing electronics products, Bangladesh had to pay billion dollars of imports bills. Thanks to Walton’s visionary entrepreneur. People of the country can now buy essential electronics products at affordable prices.

Walton has created employment opportunities for thousands of people. Employment creation is very important for the country’s economic prosperity. Walton is not only saving billions of dollars import costs but also contributing to the country's export income, he added.
