WBBC celebrates 2nd anniv with global unity, local impact

On the auspicious occasion of its 2nd anniversary, the World Bangladesh Buddhist Council (WBBC) gathered esteemed members, distinguished guests, and community leaders to celebrate two years of dedicated service and collaboration in international initiatives.

The event took place at the historic Buddhist monastery and orphanage in Patharghata of Joypurhat on January 23, read a press release.

The anniversary ceremony, held at the heart of North Bengal, brought together diverse communities and showcased the global presence of WBBC.

The day's activities included sacred recitation from the Tripitaka, 5 Precepts observations, Auttapraiskar, Shangha Dhaan, and a series of philanthropic initiatives, underlining the council's commitment to spiritual values and community welfare.

Spiritual reflections

Monks from 8 temples of the northern region of the country participated in sacred rituals, including recitation from the Tripitaka and 5 Precepts observations, fostering a sense of spiritual unity and mindfulness.

Philanthropy and community engagement

WBBC demonstrated its commitment to social welfare by distributing winter blankets among underprivileged villagers and orphaned children. Meals were provided to villagers, orphans, and monks, reflecting the council's dedication to addressing immediate needs in the community.

Advocacy and local support

The ceremony included a momentous submission and request for a vital road next to the Pathtarghata Temple, addressing the infrastructure needs of the local community. Additionally, WBBC appealed for essential support and protection for the indigenous community of Bangladesh from the local Member of Parliament, Shamsul Alam Dudu.

Global leadership

Notable attendees included Member of Parliament Shamsul Alam Dudu, councillors, and senior figures from the WBBC central committee, representing Australia, USA, Europe, and Malaysia. The global participation underscored the council's widespread impact and collaboration.

Inauguration and blessings

The event marked the inauguration of WBBC's president, Dibbendu Barua Otto, and the newly appointed Secretary General, Dalim Kumar Barua. Blessings were bestowed by Venerable Samannanda Bhikkhu Mahathero and presided over by Venerable Sushilapriya Bhikkhu Thero.

In his speech, the honourable chief guest, Member of Parliament Shamsul Alam Dudu, pledged immediate action to build the much-needed road, addressing the pressing needs of the villagers and the temple. WBBC expressed deep appreciation for his commitment and support to the unprivileged people of Joypurhat.

The 2nd-anniversary celebration of WBBC was a testament to the organization's mission of fostering unity among indigenous people in North Bengal, bringing together diverse communities for a day of reflection, collaboration, and positive change.

Other members of the WBBC central committee Senior VP Palash Barua, Joint Secretary General Sangha Barua, Information and Technology Secretary Saikat Barua, Business and Project Secretary Mong Mong Shing Marma, were also present over ZOOM and exchanges greetings with the audience.
