1.85 lakh flood-affected farmers given free seed, fertiliser

The government has distributed free seeds and fertilisers worth Tk 11 crore among 1.85 lakh farmers in 17 districts that witnessed severe damages caused by the recent floods.

In the first phase, 94,000 farmers were distributed seeds of aman paddy and fertilisers worth Tk 5.88 crore, the Ministry of Agriculture said in a press release on Saturday.

In the second phase, 700 farmers of the most affected districts — Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar and Habiganj — were distributed seeds of aman paddy and fertilisers worth around Tk 3.50 lakh.

In the third phase, implementation of rehabilitation assistance worth Tk 5 crore to 90,000 farmers and the work of providing each of them 5kg of high-yielding seeds of aman paddy, 10kg of DAP and 10kg of MOP fertiliser is underway, read the release.

Besides, the process of giving assistance to the affected farmers with early winter vegetable seeds is underway, it added.
