5,900 Gopalganj farmers get incentive for Aush, jute cultivation

A total of 5,900 small and marginal farmers in Gopalganj Sadar upazila have been given seeds and fertilisers free of cost as an agro incentive for cultivating Aush paddy and jute in the current Kharif-1 season.

To increase the interest of farmers in Aush paddy and jute cultivation, the amount of incentive support and the number of farmers have been increased significantly in the current financial year 2022-23 in the district, the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) said.

Chairman of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Parishad Sheikh Lutfar Rahman Bachchu inaugurated the distribution function on Friday morning. He handed over the incentive among the farmers as the chief guest with the agriculture officer of the upazila, Mafaroza Akhtar, in the chair.

The distribution function was held on the Sadar Upazila Parishad premises.

Under the programme, each of the 2,400 farmers was given five kilogrammes of Aush paddy seed, 10kg of Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertiliser and 10kg of Muriate of Potash (MOP) fertiliser free of cost for cultivating one bigha of land. Meanwhile, 3,500 farmers were given one kg of jute seed each.
