Flood damages crops worth Tk140cr in Jamalpur

The recent flood has damaged huge crops worth about Tk 140crore in the district of Jamalpur.

According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), the flood-hit in the district on July 3 and it lasted till the 15th of this year, reports BSS.

During the period, the flood water submerged 11,524 hectares of land of various crops out of standing crops on 40,546 hectares in all the seven Upazilas in the district. The crops are T-Aman seed bed, Aush paddy, jute, vegetable, sesame, green chilli, maize and banana.

Flood water damaged crops on 6990 hectares of land completely and 4517 hectares of land partially. As a result, farmers lost about 2,739 tonnes of crops to the flood.

The office said 6, 3417 farmers incurred the huge loss caused by the flood.

Deputy Director, DAE, Zakia Sultana said after receding flood water, farmers have started planting T-Aman seed in full swing.

Farmers earlier prepared huge seedbeds so that they could recoup the loss caused by the flood. We are closely monitoring the situation and advising farmers about cultivation, she added.
