Govt to procure Aman rice at Tk 42 per kg

The government would procure per kilogram of Aman paddy at Tk 28 and rice at Tk 42 this season.

“The government will procure 3 lakh tonnes of paddy and 5 lakh tonnes of rice this Aman season while the procurement will begin on November 10,” Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder told reporters at the secretariat on Tuesday.

Last year, the government purchased Aman paddy at Tk 27 a kg and rice at Tk 40 per kg.

Asked, if the interests of farmers have been considered in fixing the price of paddy and rice, the minister said they have not been procuring paddy through middlemen for the last three to four years.

“For example, we purchase paddy from farmers through the app… the money also goes directly to their bank accounts. There is no opportunity for middlemen here.”
