Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder has said there was no chance of another hike in the price of rice in the country.

The minister made the statement while speaking at the inaugural function of Boro paddy procurement in eight districts of eight divisions of the country at Khadya Bhaban in Dhaka on Thursday.

“Boro paddy procurement activities have started across the country from today (Thursday). The purchase of rice will start from May 7. This year, the target has been set to procure 1.1 million tonnes of rice and 600,000 tonnes of paddy,” said the minister.

Stating that no compromise can be made regarding the quality of paddy and rice, the minister said that the concerned should ensure that the farmers are not harassed while procuring paddy and rice.

Advising the people concerned to sign an agreement with the millers for the purchase of rice between May 7 and 16, Sadhan Chandra Majumder said that the millers should also ensure that the terms of the agreement are not violated.
