At least 99.4 per cent target of cultivating Ropa Aman paddy has been achieved in the Khulna agriculture region this season, an official said on Thursday.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has fixed a plantation target of 2,99,802 hectares of land with a production target of 13,07,911 metric tons of paddy and 8,71,940 metric tons of clean rice in Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira and Narail districts of the region, said Bivash Chandra Saha, Additional Director of DAE.
The government has already given over Tk 5.33 crore to 75,400 farmers as incentives to increase the production of Ropa Aman.
"Farmers have cultivated Aman paddy on 2,98,038 hectares of land, less by 1,764 hectares against the fixed farming target," he said.
In the Khulna district, 92,719 hectares of land have been cultivated against the farming target of 94,810 hectares with a production target of 4,37,345 metric tonnes of paddy and 2,91,563 metric tonnes of clean rice.
In the Bagerhat district, 73,234 hectares of land have been cultivated against the farming target of 73,322 hectares of land with a production target of 2,78,697 metric tonnes of paddy and 1,85,798 metric tonnes of clean rice.
In the Satkhira district, 88,650 hectares of land have been cultivated against the farming target of 88,770 hectares with a production target of 3,93,555 metric tonnes of paddy and 2,62,370 metric tonnes of clean rice.
In the Narail district, 43,435 hectares of land have been cultivated against the farming target of 42,900 hectares of land with a production target of 1,98,314 metric tonnes of paddy and 1,32,209 metric tonnes of clean rice.
The farmers now have put their all-out efforts into nursing the growing Aman rice plants on vast tracts of croplands that have worn an eye-catching look.
