Agriculture Minister Muhammad Abdur Razzaque on Wednesday said that the price of Urea fertiliser on the local market will be readjusted if the price comes down on the global market.

He said the hike in Urea price by Tk 6 per kg would not have any impact on food production in the country.

Razzaque was talking to reporters before attending a workshop in Barishal city.

“The government has been putting emphasis on the balanced use of Urea fertiliser for a long time while the farmers have a tendency to use the fertiliser excessively,” he said.

Razzaque, however, hoped that the use of Urea would decline due to the price hike.

On Monday, the government hiked urea fertiliser prices by Tk 6 per kg with effect from the day.

At the dealers’ level, the fertiliser now costs Tk 20 per kg while for farmers it costs Tk 22 per kg, which was Tk 16 till July 31.
