The Australia Bangladesh Business Forum (ABBF), in collaboration with the Bangladesh High Commission in Australia, is proud to announce the upcoming “Australia Bangladesh Business Expo,” scheduled to be held at the International Convention Centre in Sydney on October 3rd and 4th.

The organiser announced this schedule on Tuesday in a press conference in Dhaka.

During the conference ABBF President Abdul Khan Ratan said, that export growth to the Australian market in the last two years was 33 per cent with the last year’s net value standing at $1.5 billion. The country is potential to the US and that is why we are going to showcase our goods to their consumers to grave the opportunity.”

He said, “The primary objective of this Expo is to introduce the wide array of exportable products from Bangladesh to our friends and partners in Australia.

“We are excited to showcase the diversity and quality of Bangladeshi products, ranging from our renowned Readymade Garments to our delicious seafood such as Fish, shrimp, and prawns.”

Additionally, they will present Bangladesh’s home textiles, jute products, leather goods, handicrafts, plastic products, and pharmaceutical products. This expo is a prime opportunity for Bangladesh to import from Australian wheat, cotton, milk powder, fruits, meats, grains such as chickpeas, lentils and others.

In the press conference, Australian Deputy High Commissioner to Bangladesh Clinton Pobke said that Australia exports materials that Bangladesh needs to manufacture goods, including export to countries like Australia.

“Next month, Australia will be hosting the third meeting of the joint working group on trade and investment under the TIFA in Canberra Our aim is to work together with the Bangladesh government to help connect more businesses, improve the business environment, and diversify the economic opportunities for both countries.

“Under the current Australian System of Tariff Preferences (the ASTP) Bangladesh will not lose its existing preferential access to the Australian market upon graduation. In this context, the Australia Bangladesh Expo being launched in Dhaka on Tuesday comes at a pivotal moment,” Clinton said.

Replying to a question, Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Australia Allama Siddiki said, “Australia is an import-dependent country, and they meet their 90 per cent goods demand through import. Considering this, Bangladesh has opportunities to increase exports to these countries.

BGMEA Director and Sparrow Group Managing Director Shovon Islam said, “We reached a billion dollar export milestone in Australia in the last year and most of the apparel. But the amount is a minimum amount considering their clothes import.

“Along with garment, all sectors have the opportunity to boost export in the country.”

The organiser informed us that nearly 150 Bangladesh enterprises plan to participate in the exhibition to promote their goods in Australia.
