Bangladesh eyeing $80m export order from Gulfood 2022

Bangladesh is expecting to get $80m export orders from the Gulfood 2022 Exhibition held in Dubai, UAE. 

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saad Al Maktoum, chairman of the Dubai World Trade Center, inaugurated the fair on February 13 which came to an end on Thursday.

The main attraction of the five-day fair was the exhibition of agricultural products from 185 countries around the world.

Foreign buyers participated in the expo as Covid-19 cases are significantly decreasing worldwide.

This year the number of companies representing Bangladesh has increased to 48, while in last year, the number was 42. Every year, around 50 companies attend the fair from Bangladesh.   

Over 150 representatives from different Bangladeshi companies attended their respective stalls.  

Among others, Meghna Group, Akij Food & Beverage, Pran-RFL Group, Ovijat Food & Beverage, AG Agro Food, Ahmed Food, Alin Food, Amin Square, Arif Agro, Banaful, Bashundhara Food & Beverage, Bombay Sweets, Citygroup, Denis Food, Eurasia Food, Globe Pharmaceuticals, Haque Group, Sajib Group, Hifs Agro Food, Kazi Farms, My Foods, Pacific Consumer, Rangpur Dairy Food, Siam Agro Food, Star Line, and Well Food and Beverages Limited participated in the expo.

Pran-RFL Group Head of international business, Abu Bakkar Siddique said, "Our company has been participating in this event for last 20 years. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there was not much response last year.”

“This time we are getting better response. We have received expected orders as many visitors thronged the fair. Hopefully, our products will be more appreciated in different parts of the world. We will earn more foreign exchange,” he added.

“By participating in this fair, Bangladeshi exporters strengthen their existing market as well as explore new markets,” Abu Mokhlech Alamgir Hossain, Bangladeshi Pavilion director of Gulf Food highlighted.

He further said that the importance of this fair in expanding the market of agriculture and agro-processed products is immense.

The Gulfood expo has been playing a significant role to expand the agriculture and agro-based products market, he added.

Kamrul Islam, commercial counsellor at the Bangladesh Consulate in Dubai, said “The authorities organize the fair in February every year. Many big countries participate in this fair. The biggest advantage of which is Business to Business (B2B) deals. The fair is a great place to receive purchase orders and strengthen relationships with potential buyers.”
