Bangladesh to import 3 lakh tonnes wheat from Russia

Bangladesh has reached a consensus with Russia on importing 3 lakh tonnes of wheat primarily from the largest wheat exporter in the world.

The consensus was agreed at a meeting between Russian Ambassador in Dhaka Alexander Vikentevich Mantitsky and Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder at the secretariat on Thursday.

Russia is interested to play its role to secure food security in Bangladesh and as a part of this the Russian ambassador proposed wheat export, the Ministry of Food said in a press release.

In the meeting, Sadhan told the Russian envoy that Bangladesh's relations with Russia are very excellent which is expanding gradually in various fields, including trade and investment.

The food minister thanked Russia for the decision about exporting wheat to Bangladesh.

“This move will play an important role in the bilateral relationship,” Sadhan added.
