Bangladesh's current account deficit has hit an all-time high of $12 billion in the eighth month of the ongoing fiscal year due to acceleration of trade deficit and declining trend of remittance.

The current account was at a surplus of $825 million in the same period of the previous fiscal year, according to the central bank's latest statistics.

The ongoing pressure on the foreign exchange reserve, created by the growing import payment, is the main reason behind the highest current account deficit, said industry insiders.
