Bank branches in RMG areas to run Jun 14-16

Branches of scheduled banks in the readymade garments (RMG) industrial areas will remain open on June 14-16 to facilitate payment of garment workers' salary, Eid bonus, allowances and export-import activities.

The Bangladesh Bank gave the directive to the scheduled banks in a circular on Sunday.

The central bank has asked banks to continue operation before Eid-ul-Azha in the branches located near garment industrial areas in Dhaka city, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, Narayanganj and Chattogram ensuring adequate security.

Eid-ul-Azha, the largest religious festival for Muslims, will be celebrated in Bangladesh on June 17.

Meanwhile, according to a circular issued by the Bangladesh Bank’s Department of Offsite Supervision, banks will start operating at 10am from June 19, which will continue till 4pm. The bank offices will be open from 10am to 6pm.

There will be weekend holidays on Friday and Saturday.

Currently, bank transactions are continuing from 10am to 3:30pm, and bank offices are open from 10am to 5pm.
