The Bangladesh Bank has fixed the maximum limit of cash withdrawal from any bank account to Tk 4 lakh, an increase from the Tk 3 lakh limit which was in effect during the previous week.
The regulator gave the directive in an urgent message to the managing directors of banks on Saturday night. A number of senior officials from different banks have confirmed the matter to Amader Shomoy.
According to the central bank directive, even though a customer cannot withdraw more than Tk 4 lakh in cash, they can transfer any amount of money to another account and do digital transactions.
After the fall of the Awami League government in the face of a mass uprising on August 5, limits on withdrawals from banks were imposed for the sake of security. The cash withdrawal limit is gradually being increased.
